To the editor:
As a parent of children in the Mehlville School District, I am voting yes on Proposition A this November. Proposition A preserves the current tax rate and guarantees funding for safety systems, buses, parking lots, roofs and technology.
Proposition A seems like a reasonable ask from the community, considering the size of the Mehlville School District. The proposed levy is only an estimated 3.26 cents, and the ballot also redirects 2.4 cents from the 12-cent Prop S debt service levy for a combined 5.66 cents. The Mehlville School District is one of the largest school districts in the state of Missouri. Every school day, nearly 10,000 students are transported to school safely and learn within safe school facilities. While their learning must be a priority, that learning cannot happen if solid school structures do not exist.
I expect good things from the Mehlville School District. I expect my children to get a good education and I expect my children to learn within sound schools. Proposition A provides us with an opportunity to ensure our schools remain a place where these expectations can be met. There is no better investment as a parent and a taxpayer that I can make. Please consider making that investment with me on Nov. 4.
