Updated Sept. 28 with a description of the suspect.

Police in the city and county are looking for a suspected carjacker who took an elderly woman’s car at the south county Kmart this morning.

The woman, 75, had her car taken by a man who approached her with a knife at 10:26 a.m. Tuesday in the parking lot at Kmart, 3901 Lemay Ferry Road, police said.

The suspect took off in the car, which was later recovered at the intersection of Walsh Street and Alabama Avenue in St. Louis city, close to Interstate 55.

The suspect is still at large, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

The woman described the suspect as a white male of average height and thin build with a short hairstyle, police spokesman Officer Benjamin Granda said. He was wearing a white T-shirt and shorts.

Since the stolen car was recovered in the city, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is assisting the St. Louis County Police Department in the investigation.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
