Two Lindbergh teachers receive Emerson Award

Lindbergh Schools 2017 Teacher of the Year Megan Vallis and Sappington Elementary School special education teacher Daniel Hehner recently were honored with the prestigious Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award.
Vallis, who is a library media specialist at Truman Middle School, and Hehner, who is employed by Special School District and works in Lindbergh, are among 109 area teachers to receive this honor. Each honoree received an engraved Tiffany crystal apple and an achievement certificate during the recent ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton in Clayton.
Vallis was one of six finalists for the 2017-2018 Missouri Teacher of the Year Award. She began her career teaching second grade at Crestwood Elementary School for seven years and is now entering her third year at Truman.
Hehner’s dedication to students is beyond reproach. He supports students by giving them the confidence to learn — finding ways to teach the material specifically for each student.
