To the editor:

Do you wish you were a more confident speaker? Good communication skills are vital to success in almost everything we do.

If you want to improve these skills, South County Toastmasters may be for you. We meet weekly on Wednesday evenings.

Members give different types of speeches and may have other roles at meetings when they aren’t speaking. New members have a mentor to help them for the first 6 months and beyond.

The mentor’s information is so useful because she or he has experienced many of the same emotions and situations that a new member will experience.

One of the most important aspects of Toastmasters is the realization that everyone there wants you to succeed.

The club provides a friendly, encouraging, supportive atmosphere to develop skills at your own pace.  Some people have looked into joining after giving a disastrous work presentation. It’s better to be proactive and improve your communication skills before an incredibly painful experience like that.

Most people are understandably nervous before their first speech, but it is such a great feeling once you have completed it.

There’s not enough space here to list all the benefits Toastmasters provides. Please go to our website at southcountytoastmasters.org.
