Reader writes about interesting visit to doctor, questions doctor’s questions

Letters+to+the+editor

To the editor:

Hubby and I recently had an interesting annual visit to our doctor.

After usual blood pressure, heart rate, etc. we moved on to a mental test required by Medicare. It appears that we are at the age they want to know our mental health. Questions such as what time you think it is, count backwards, name/months backward and then do you own a gun? Strange question in the middle of a health evaluation test. I assume to test our mental condition and chances of hurting yourself or someone else, however we were not asked if we own knives, hammers or poison.

My reason for writing this is not to take political sides but to inform others of questions being asked by Medicare.

You have the freedom to decide what is or isn’t appropriate questions for you and to practice those freedoms.
