Well, here we go again. In the Aug. 9 Call, Green Park Mayor Tony Konopka explains in great detail the plans for the reconstruction of Green Park Road.
From what I can make out, the plan calls for two extra feet of lanes on both sides with an eight-foot-wide sidewalk on the north side of the road. Eight feet? Who needs an eight-foot sidewalk? Haven’t we got enough walking trails in the neighborhood? Put that eight feet of concrete to good use and make that a four-lane road.
Anyway, it seems that if indeed the work ever gets started, it will be a long time in the future. Don’t forget we’re talking about only 6,000 feet of roadway. I doubt if this much planning went into the building of Route 66, all the way from Chicago to L.A., a couple of thousand miles or so.
Board President Anthony Pousosa states, “In the long run, I think it will be something that down the road will definitely benefit the city of Green Park.”
I don’t know about benefiting the city of Green Park, but it sure will benefit the hundreds of non-residents, who, every day, use the road as a shortcut.
