Police offer Drug Take Back Day April 28

On Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Step Up of St. Louis, the St. Louis County Police Department and the Sunset Hills Police Department will give the public its 15th opportunity in seven years to prevent pill abuse and theft by turning in old, unwanted or expired prescription drugs.

Area disposal locations include:

The Fenton Precinct, 625 New Smizer Mill Road.

Green Park City Hall, 11100 Mueller Road.

Grantwood Village City Hall, 1 Missionary Ridge.

The South County Precinct, 324 Sappington Barracks Road.

Step Up of St. Louis will be providing volunteer support at locations through the day.

“The Step Up of St. Louis mission is to work with the community and prevent teen substance use/misuse. The St. Louis County Police Department and Sunset Hills Police Department work through the year to divert unused prescription medications from our neighborhoods so they are properly destroyed. This two-time-per-year event gives important attention to a year-long effort,” said Erin Kelley, executive director of Step Up of St. Louis.

Last fall Americans turned in 456 tons (912,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at more than 5,300 sites across the country with almost 4,300 of its state and local law enforcement partners.

Overall, the event has taken in more than 9 million pounds of unwanted drugs.
