To the editor:

Well, well, I see we have a Bible scholar living in our midst. Now who would have thought? I must confess I am in awe. And look, this erudite has taken time out from his studies to favor us with his Biblical insights on what the Bible says about abortion.

Alderman Michael K. Broughton of Green Park just let loose a Jan. 2 salvo on a well-intentioned Catholic layman whom he thinks used the Bible incorrectly to back his church’s views on abortion.

I will admit I have not seen the verses the layman used, but not to worry, I can supply the fire-breathing alderman with any number of Biblical texts that vilify abortion.

And should the alderman accuse me of being disingenuous as he has Deacon Richard Schellhase, the layman in question, I will challenge him to a public debate; and that won’t be good for the browbeating alderman because evangelical Presbyterians know their Bibles.

But then again maybe Broughton doesn’t even care about what the Bible says about abortion.

In case someone wants to know what the Bible says about abortion, use this passage for starters, Psalm 139:13-16. I say starters because there are more, lots more.
