Oakville Senior High School girls’ soccer team defeats Hazelwood West 3-0

During a week in which nearly every high-school girls’ soccer game in the area was rained out, the Oakville Senior High School Tigers recorded a 3-0 win over Hazelwood West.

But Oakville head coach Dave Robben didn’t complain about the soggy weather one bit as it allowed his team the opportunity to recover from some injuries.

Against Hazelwood West on April 30, the Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Emma Kriegel as Courtney Mask recorded the assist. Kriegel’s goal was the senior midfielder’s fifth of the season.

“Emma stuck the ball really well into the corner,” Robben said. “The keeper really had not a chance at the ball.”

The Tigers struck again in the second half with a goal by Megan Flecke as Mask recorded her second assist of the evening. Flecke’s goal was her fifth of the season and the senior midfielder now has 13 points.

“Courtney put the ball across the field, then Megan gathered the ball and went straight to the goal,” Robben said. “She struck it into the corner for a real nice goal.”

Kriegel scored Oakville’s third goal in the second half when Samantha Schlake had her second assist of the season.

“Emma got a pass from Samantha and hit a laser beam to the goal,” Robben said. “She really blasted it.”

Goalkeeper Debbie Easter recorded her 10th shutout of the season as the junior upped her record to 10-2-2 overall with a 0.73 goals-against average.

“Our defense pretty much limited Hazelwood West’s chances and Debbie was at the right place at the right time,” Robben said. “She’s been playing well here lately.”

The Tigers are back in action at 6:30 p.m. today — May 10 — when they play host to Francis Howell North in non-conference action. Francis Howell North (7-11-2, 3-2 Gate-way Athletic) is coming off a 3-1 win at home against Troy after losing its last three games.
