The Oakville Senior High School girls’ soccer team finished the regular season with a bang Friday night in an 8-1 thumping of Northwest in Suburban West Conference action.

“One of our objectives going into the game was to have a strong finish and we were able to do that,” Oakville head coach Dave Robben told the Call. “The other objective was to go back to the things we do well. All of our goals came from good buildups with good passing.”

The Tigers (13-5-2, 3-4 Suburban West) were led by Megan Flecke’s three-goal performance that included one assist. The senior midfielder has eight goals and four assists this season.

“Her three goals in that game were outstanding goals,” Robben said. “She’s a player that got hot at the end of the 2005 season and we moved through the sectional and the quarterfinal to the Final Four and we’re hoping to recapture that again.”

Oakville’s Jasmina Suljic racked up two goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal. The junior forward leads the Tigers with 10 goals and nine assists this season.

“Jasmina’s first goal came from Candy Michaels, who set her up, and Jasmina finished it,” Robben said. “Her second goal came from Caroline Schmidt, who had won the ball on a couple of hard tackles.

“Caroline then came forward with the ball and put it into some open space where Jasmina ran onto it.”

Sophomore midfielder Samantha Schlake also belted out a two-goal effort for the Tigers in the blowout win over Northwest. The sophomore midfielder has five goals and two assists with the Tigers this season.

“On the first goal, Flecke took a shot and the goalkeeper had trouble holding on to the ball and Samantha pounded the ball in,” Robben said.

“The second goal came from a pass by Candy Michaels where Samantha took a high shot to the corner from about 20 yards out. The keeper didn’t have a chance on either goal,” Robben added.

Rounding out the scoring effort by the Tigers was Lauren Radman, who scored her first goal of the season.

The junior forward also has three assists this season.

“Erin Flecke made a nice run and crossed the ball over to Lauren,” Robben said. “She then got the ball and blasted it past the keeper.”

Oakville is back in action this week in the Class 2, District 4 Tournament at Fox High School in Arnold.

The Tigers were scheduled to face Lindbergh Tuesday — after the Call went to press.

Despite losing to Lindbergh 3-1 April 21, Robben hopes the Tigers are ready to bounce back and compete for a district championship.

“We certainly have respect for Lindbergh because they beat us 3-1,” the Oakville coach said. “Hopefully, what we rediscovered against Northwest is that we’ve got our groove back. Winning the district is what it’s all about.”

The championship game of the district tournament will be played at 6 p.m. today — May 17.
