To the editor:

I am writing to thank Call reporter Gloria Lloyd for her excellent front-page, above-the-fold article titled “MSD stormwater fee unconstitutional, Supreme Court rules.”

In working in former Sen. Jim Lembke’s office, we assisted many constituents whose homes were on septic tanks and had no connection to the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District system. MSD had suddenly in 2008 started charging those folks this extra tax.

We fought MSD on this illegal tax. Our Missouri Hancock Amendment says that taxes must be increased only with voter approval. I anticipate that MSD will put this new tax on your 2014 ballot.

Please join me in voting “no” on the outlaw MSD proposition to increase taxes. It’s time we teach them that the Constitution applies to them, too. In America, nobody is above the law.
