A motorcyclist died Wednesday after his motorcycle was hit by an SUV on Lemay Ferry Road.

The male motorcyclist, who has not yet been publicly identified pending notification of his next of kin, was hit by an SUV pulling into traffic on Lemay Ferry Road near Mehlville High School around 4 p.m. Wednesday, the St. Louis County Police Department said. He was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.

The motorcyclist was driving south on Lemay Ferry Road when a black SUV pulled out of a business to go north and collided with the motorcycle, police said. The SUV continued off the road and hit gas pumps at the Phillips 66 station at 3307 Lemay Ferry Road, which caused a fire.

The driver of the SUV, also a man, was alone in his car and was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The motorcyclist was alone on his motorcycle too.

Despite the fire, no one was injured at the gas station, police reported.

The incident is under investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons and Accident Reconstruction Unit.
