This year could be a memorable season for the Mehlville girls golf team as the Panthers three seniors return to the team as well as sophomore standout Eva Brown.

“We’re excited for the season to start,” Mehlville head coach Steve Kress said. “We have a small team this year with just four on the varsity and two on the junior varsity, but they’re a fun group to be with day in and day out.”

The talk of the town for the Panthers this season is Brown, who shot a a 155 overall at last year’s Missouri Class 3 state championships for runners-up honors. Last month, Brown also took fifth overall at the Gateway PGA Junior Tour Championship at WingHaven Country Club.

“Eva has been super busy during the summer,” Kress said. “She comes into the year with a lot more experience and is hitting the ball really well.”

Senior Maria Wilder returns for her fourth season on the varsity squad and is poised to make her final season with the Panthers a memorable one.

“Maria is a really smart player,” Kress said. “She’s a hard worker and comes in every day with a good attitude. She’s a lot of fun to coach.”

Another four-year varsity senior on this year’s roster is Genevieve Ruesing. who recorded a hole-in-one on the sixth hole at Columbia Golf Club.

“Genevieve is a coachable kid that’s a great team member and a lot of fun to be around,” Kress said. “We got her reaction on that ace at the sixth hole at Columbia from about 130 yards out and that was pretty awesome to see.”

The Panthers third senior returning for her fourth year on the varsity squad is Maggie Loeffler.

“Maggie has a great personality and is a very good student,” Kress said. “She works hard at practice and comes ready to play each day.”
