Mehlville School District pupils participate in annual Elementary Academic Olympics

Mehlville School District elementary pupils recently demonstrated their scholastic prowess during the district’s annual Elementary Academic Olympics.

All 11 elementary schools competed in the Elementary Academic Olympics at Oakville Senior High School.

Pupils in grades four through six competed individually in storytelling, oratory, poetry, math and spelling.

In addition, a total of 24 four-person teams entered the Scholar Quiz event. At the conclusion of the day, the winning Olympians were presented with medals.

The math and spelling competitions were separated by grade levels.

Taking first-place honors in the math competition were fourth-grader Kolby King of Point, fifth-grader Lauren Chap-man of Point and sixth-grader Nick Giesel-man of Trautwein.

Gold-medal winners in the spelling competition were fourth-grader Pricilla Lang-don of Forder, fifth-grader Renee Wolk of Blades and sixth-grader Sarah Regan of Bierbaum Elementary School.

Fourth-graders competed in a poetry competition. Earning a bronze medal for third place was Laura Brunette of Point with Ellen Brinkmann of Rogers claiming the silver medal and Katie Drier of Beas-ley taking first place and winning the gold medal.

Fifth-graders competed in the storytelling competition. Abby Younghauer of Beasley and Matthew Christopher of Wohl-wend tied for the bronze medal, while Jennifer Schanzle of Blades earned the silver medal and Mallory Krueger of Hage-mann finished first to capture the gold medal.

In the sixth-grade oratory competition, Christine Raczka of Blades won the bronze medal, Emily Wicks of Trautwein picked up the silver medal and Cassi Green-lee of Rogers earned the gold medal.

The Elementary Academic Olympics Scholar Quiz champion is the Point B team comprised of Nick Siemer, Tony Giacin, Kate Goldstein and Katherine Cannady.
