Lindbergh Schools held an open house event Feb. 24 to debut the new high school to the community.

The event included self-guided and student-led tours, musical performances by Lindbergh High School students, free food and drinks from the Flyer Fuel coffee shop and a streaming of the original LHS dedication from 1952.

“When I watched it the first time, I really was struck by how lucky everyone in that video must have felt, to know that they were building a school that was going to serve this community, and ended up serving this community for over seventy years,”  Lindbergh High School Principal Eric Cochran said at the ribbon cutting that kicked off the day. “I now feel that kind of same excitement as we open the doors to a new high school that we hope will be flexible enough to serve generations of students.”

“Again, I just want to say thank you to the community,” Superintendent Tony Lake added. “You know, this is truly something that our whole community can be proud of. We are providing some opportunities for our students that other students don’t get with this space. Thank you for that support and continuing to prioritize public education in our community.”

Though there was not a count taken at the door, Beth Johnston, chief communications officer at Lindbergh Schools, estimated that thousands attended the open house.

“During our four-hour event, we had a constant flow of visitors including alumni, former parents, community members and current families and staff. It was amazing,” she said. “While we did not take a count at the door, our front parking lots were full all day, and combined they have 865 parking spaces. I do not think it’s an overestimate to say at least 2-3,000 people came through during the course of the day, maybe even more.”

The construction of the new high school was made possible by Prop R 2019, a no-tax-rate-increase bond issue that funded new construction and renovations at LHS, in addition to safety upgrades districtwide.
