Man in motorized wheelchair hit by car, killed in South County

A man in a motorized wheelchair was struck and killed while crossing a street in South County Monday night.

Police said the man who was hit, who has not yet been publicly identified, is between 60 and 70 years old. He was attempting to cross Lemay Ferry just south of Victory Drive around 6:15 p.m. when he was hit by a car while in his wheelchair.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car that hit the man stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

South County Precinct officers responded to a 911 call to get to the scene.

The St. Louis County Police Department is asking anyone with information to call 636-529-8210 to speak to investigators.
