Long-awaited The Pavilion at Lemay set to open

The long-awaited Lemay Community Center and Aquatic Center is finally set to open in April, with the outdoor pools debuting on Memorial Day.

And although it has long been referred to as the Lemay Aquatic Center, the facility at 305 Greg Road in Jefferson Barracks Park will also get a new name for its official debut: The Pavilion at Lemay.

“It’s a really, really nice facility, and it serves a part of our county that has been underserved in a lot of ways,” County Executive Steve Stenger told the Call. “South county really needed something like this, and I think it’s going to be a really, really nice amenity. I think people from a good distance are going to attend the facility — it’s state-of-the-art.”

The $12 million aquatic center was a major promise of Pinnacle Entertainment when it opened the River City Casino in Lemay in 2009.

The casino contributed $5 million to the project upfront, $500,000 comes from a federal grant and the other $6.5 million comes from bonds being retired with funds the casino pays to the county for renting the casino’s land.
