Returning players and a strong, balanced offense makes the Lindbergh girls volleyball team confident about the season ahead.

Confidence is the best way to describe the 2022 Lindbergh girls volleyball team.

“We’re feeling pretty confident about ourselves right now since we have a lot of players returning,” Lindbergh head coach Atom Zuniga said. “Our offense is going to be a lot stronger, more dynamic and more balanced this season.”

Senior middle hitter and outside hitter Megan Manaj is the Flyers top threat on the front line with a team-leading 322 kills and 100 blocks.

“We’re going to try and get her the ball more this season,” Zuniga said. “Her defensive improvements are going to help us out quite a bit this season.”

Mia Altobella is another senior that will see time primarily at outside hitter during the 2022 season. Last year Altobella racked up 212 kills as well as 36 blocks.

“Mia has been starting for us since her sophomore year,” Zuniga said. “She comes into the year with a lot stronger attack and defensive block.”

Seniors Elise Williams and Maryn Fisher will take on the setter role for the Flyers this year as Fisher racked up 482 assists in 104 games played. Williams on the other hand recorded 383 assists.

“Elise is a lot more consistent with her location and can get to the ball quicker,” Zuniga said. “Maryn’s location and accuracy has drastically improved and she’s going to help us run a much more dynamic offense with an upbeat tempo.”

Another outside hitter in the Flyers’ lineup this year is junior Bailey Boehm, while senior Gabrielle Hipp will see time at middle hitter.

“Gabrielle had a really good club season and she’s becoming a very strong offensive weapon from our middle position,” Zuniga said. “Bailey has developed immensely since last year and I see her serve/receive as well as her defensive play as being her biggest improvements.”

The Flyers begin the season Aug. 27 at the Visitation Academy tournament.
