Lindbergh High girls grab key victory over Northwest, look toward districts

Flyers play host to Parkway South on Friday

The Lindbergh High School girls’ basketball team grabbed a big win Friday with a 60-35 victory over Northwest.

Besides earning a conference victory, the Flyers (8-13, 2-3 Suburban West) recorded a win against a district opponent.

Lindbergh’s win-loss total against district opponents will decide where the team will be seeded for the upcoming Class 5, District 2 Tournament.

“This was a big win for us because it was a conference game, and they (Northwest) are also in our district,” Lindbergh head coach Bill Thoele told the Call. “When you only have eight wins, you’ve got to take advantage of everything.”

Lindbergh’s Brittany Casey led all scorers with 14 points and seven rebounds. The sophomore forward also racked up five assists and one steal in the win over Northwest.

“It seems like in every game that she’s been getting 12-15 points and seven or eight rebounds,” Thoele said. “She’s been getting more confident and is turning into a fine player.”

Flyer sophomore forward Emily Bozdeck scored in double figures with a 10-point effort that included seven rebounds. She also recorded one steal against Northwest.

“Emily’s our workhorse,” the Lindbergh coach said. “We’ve been working with her on getting more into scoring, and this game was a plus for her that made her feel really good.”

The Flyers will play host to Parkway South at 7 p.m. Friday in another key conference game for both schools.

Parkway South (10-11, 3-3 Suburban West) is riding a three-game winning streak, including a 52-43 win over Sullivan. The Patriots are in fourth place in the conference.

“We’re kind of alike,” Thoele said. “I think that this will be a game that will go quick and be a back-and-forth kind of game. It’s going to be interesting.”
