With an 18-point lead after one quarter Friday night, the Lindbergh High School girls’ basketball team went on to score 35 points in the first half of a 62-21 pounding of Hillsboro.

“We had a pretty easy game and I kind of had expected it,” Lindbergh head coach Bill Thoele said. “Hillsboro is really down this year, but you’ve got to play whoever you’re scheduled to play.”

The Flyers (6-0, 3-0 Suburban West) had 12 players score against the Hawks (0-5) with senior guard Margaret Kozlowski leading the team with 12 points and four rebounds. Kozlowski also recorded one assist and one steal in the win. She’s averaging 3.4 points per game this season.

“Margaret’s in a tough position because we have a lot of guards,” Thoele said. “But when she got the start, she really made the most of the opportunity. I think that the more she relaxes, the more playing time she could get.”

Lindbergh senior forward Brittany Casey also scored in the double figures with a 10-point showing that included seven rebounds, two assists, one steal and three blocked shots. Casey has six blocked shots this season. She’s averaging 14 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

“Brittany’s playing time was a lot less than normal because of the score,” Thoele said. “It gave the other kids on the team the opportunity to get out there on the court and get some playing time.”

The Flyers are back in action at 7 p.m. Wednesday when they play host to Eureka (4-1) in a non-conference game. The Wildcats are coming off a 43-32 win at home against Marquette as Allie Hill and Nesha Newton led Eureka with seven points each.

“I think that Eureka is a lot like we are,” Thoele said. “I think that it’s going to be a pretty high tempo game and whoever plays to their potential is going to win the game.”
