With a solid summer training session under the belt and a total of 45 girls on the roster, the Lindbergh girls cross country team is focused on success for the 2023 season.

“We had really good training over the summer,” Lindbergh head coach Bryan Hilton said. “We have a really good group of girls that come ready to train and I believe that kind of energy can build on itself.”

Senior Elyse Doss is someone to keep an eye on this season for the Flyers after cracking the six minute mile barrier earlier this year during track season.

“Elyse broke six minutes in the mile last year during track season and she did a really good job in the two mile at districts,” Hilton said. “I’m excited to see what she can do during cross country season.”

Taylor Forbes is another runner that had a successful track season as a junior and is hoping to use that success during the 2023 cross country campaign.

“Taylor is a really good 800 runner,” Hilton said. “She’s been training great this summer. I think that she’s going to have a great year.”

One runner that returns for her senior season with some experience at the state championships is Claire Warren, who competed at state as a freshman.

“I think that Claire is another girl that is going to have a great senior year,” Hilton said. “She’s been opening up her stride and the more that she does that, the better I think that she’s going to be.”

Junior Cristina Soto is another runner that is poised to make big improvements in 2023.

“Cristina made some huge strides since last season and I’m very curious as to what she can do this year,” Hilton said. “I think she’s really primed to have a good season.”

One of the biggest surprises in last year’s lineup was sophomore Bea Smith.

“Bea was a surprise last year for us as a freshman,” Hilton said. “She had a great cross country season and has come in and been running really strong. I’m excited to see what she can do this year.”

The Flyers head coach is also relying on the senior trio of Lucy Kraft, Michaela Parker and Gwen Fisch to provide leadership to this year’s large roster of runners.

“They bring a lot of maturity to the group,” Hilton said. “They lead by example and are showing the underclassmen how we get things done.”
