Letter writer wishes Loop Trolley was saved, extended through park

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

I was saddened to learn the Loop Trolley will cease operations. I blame the TV stations and the St. Louis tourist bureau for lack of promotion of this attraction. Other cities, including San Francisco’s “cable cars” and New Orleans’ “Desire” streetcar, use such attractions.

This offered a trip to the past as we remember Judy Garland singing the “Trolley Song” from the famous movie “Meet Me in St. Louis” about the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair …. one of St. Louis’ finest times.

I had hoped maybe Forest Park Forever might extend the trolley to Forest Park attractions from the Missouri History Museum to The Muny, Boat House, Zoo, Art Museum and the Jewel Box, looping back to the History Museum. That would link visitors to every parking lot with an authentic trolley …. not that bus/trolley substitute. All the trolley cars are here.

“Clang, clang, clang goes the trolley” … once again.
