To the editor:

Thank you to the Call for the great laugh I had yesterday regarding Senator-elect Scott Sifton, D-Affton, and his no-gifts-from-lobbyists bill.

With that sort of disingenuous dribble, all one could do is laugh.

But we can be honest about one thing — he knows how to work the media.

Sifton took more than $200,000 from the trial lawyers, not to exclude donations from NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri, drug companies, insurance political action committees and big labor, just to name a few.

Do you really think he would give up all that if he thought the bill had a chance? Looks good in the paper, though.

The simple truth is his bill won’t even be put to committee, let alone get out of one and he knows it himself already. Sort of reminds me of another politician who is always in campaign mode.

Here’s a suggestion, Mr. Sifton, get to work on something legislatively meaningful for the state like jobs or our religious freedom and stop with the campaigning.
