Homicide in south county: Police find man shot along Lemay Ferry Road July 4

Police said a man they found next to a car along Lemay Ferry Road early the morning of the 4th of July was shot to death.

The county medical examiner ruled the death a homicide. The man was identified as Thomas Hearst Jr., 31, of 500 block of Apex Avenue, St. Louis, 63136. His identity was originally not released pending notification of family members and an autopsy.

An officer from the St. Louis County Police Department’s South County Precinct found a car along the side of the 4800 block of Lemay Ferry Road around 3 a.m. Wednesday,  the 4th of July. The car appeared to have been involved in some type of crash.

The officer found Hearst lying next to the car who appeared to be suffering from some type of injury from the apparent crash. The officer gave first aid to the man until he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

At the hospital, the medical staff told the officer it appeared the man had been shot. He died at the hospital.

The homicide is under investigation by the county Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons.

The location along Lemay Ferry Road is near Mattis Road, a car wash and a strip mall.
