The annual municipal election in St. Louis County will take place on April 7. Here are eight propositions you might see on your ballot in South County. Stay tuned at at callnewspapers.com for more election coverage in the coming weeks.
Crestwood has four propositions on the ballot, proposed by the city’s Charter Review Committee. Proposition 1 would fix misspellings and errors in the city charter. Proposition 2 would “enable the city government to run more efficiently,” according to ballot language, by allowing the Board of Aldermen to make decisions on mayoral absences, meeting start times, budget cycles and extensions on auditing services.
Crestwood’s Proposition 3 would put ballot items from special elections on April ballots, instead, “to avoid costs that could be incurred for special elections.” Crestwood’s Proposition 4 would change mayoral and aldermanic terms from three- to four-year term lengths, which would keep staggered terms. If passed, four-year terms would begin in 2028.
Sunset Hills will present Proposition P, which would impose a sales tax of one-half of one percent (1/2 of 1%) for storm water control or local parks, or both.
The Bayless School District will present Proposition I. It asks for approval to issue a $23 million bond for safety and security, building upgrades and learning space improvements. If approved, it would not raise the current tax rate of $0.6320 per $100 of assessed valuation.
The Affton Fire Protection District and Lemay Fire Protection District will both put Proposition F on the ballot to impose a sales tax of one percent, in order to fund fire services. Property taxes in the respective district would be reduced each year to partially offset the amount collected from the sales tax.
