A fine line tends to exist between winning and losing.

As of this point of the season, the Lindbergh High School boys’ basketball team is looking for a formula that will get it back on the winning track.

The Flyers (4-5) have lost three of their last four games after competing in the Meramec Holiday Festival this past weekend.

“It was a short and quick Christmas,” head coach Ken Libby told the Call. “We’re trying to re-identify ourselves and adjust.

“We’re just trying to regroup and get ourselves back on track,” Libby added.

Lindbergh opened up the first round of the Meramec tournament with a disappointing 67-54 loss to Marquette.

It appeared to be a game where everything went right for the Mustangs and the Flyers just couldn’t keep pace. One of the keys to Marquette’s win was its 65 percent shooting from the field.

“You have to credit them (Marquette) in being able to convert,” Libby said. “We just didn’t have enough to get it done and how can you counter 65 percent shooting?”

Senior forward Brian Campbell led all scorers with 19 points, while senior guard Mike Mohrman also scored in double figures with 16 points.

After its loss to Marquette, the Flyers moved into the consolation bracket where they took on Troy and came away with a 64-61 loss.

“I liked our effort against Troy,” Libby said. “We did some things that we didn’t do the night before against Marquette.”

Senior forward Chris Geisz was the game’s leading scorer with 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Mohrman again scored in double figures for the Flyers, compiling 18 points, four assists and four rebounds in the loss.

The road does not get any easier for the Flyers as they travel to Parkway West Friday, Jan. 2, for their first Suburban West Conference contest of the season.

“They’re a very good and veteran team,” the Lindbergh coach said. “They have two very skilled guards. It will be a tough game for us.”

Lindbergh’s match against Parkway West is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
