COVID-19 response was delayed because of Trump’s reaction to it

To the editor:
I write in response to an April 2 opinion offered by Larry Bierman of Mehlville.
As I look at the facts surrounding our current medical situation regarding the outbreak of COVID-19, I find Mr. Bierman’s opinion to be one of Fox-induced delirium.
Trump, and only Trump, spent the early days of this outbreak dismissing it as nothing, go about your business, we have everything under control.
The severity of it in the U.S. is directly related to Trump’s failure to address the issue. Mr. Bierman is correct in that 60 percent of the nation does indeed hate Trump. Trump enjoys the support of 40 percent, but a closer look at that 40 percent shows a demographic not often thought to be qualified to manage a nation, or move a nation forward.
That demographic also is not one that would be thought to ever support a president who most closely resembles the character Biff from that old movie “Back to the Future.”
