A South County trucking company will be using tax incentives to construct its new headquarters on Green Park Industrial Drive.

The St. Louis County Council voted unanimously without discussion May 24 to approve an incentive package for Alcatraz LLC, which plans to build new 18,000-square-foot headquarters in Green Park.

The long-haul freight company, currently headquartered at 9751 Green Park Industrial Drive, asked Green Park in 2021 to combine the two vacant lots at 9768-9772 Green Park Industrial Drive for the company’s future expansion. The two lots were the last available in the Green Park Commerce Center.

The incentive package passed by the council approves bonds giving the company a sales tax exemption on construction materials, and a real property tax abatement of 50 percent of new investment over the next 10 years.

In a letter addressed to 6th District County Councilman Ernie Trakas and other members of the council, County Executive Sam Page said Alcatraz’s new headquarters “will allow them to be in an even greater position to maximize this growing industry.” Alcatraz is in the 6th County Council District.

The St. Louis Economic Development Partnership also endorsed the incentives, with partnership CEO and President Rodney Crim stating “this facility will be a new headquarters location and will allow Alcatraz to continue to grow its trucking and logistics services operations. This new building will offer a better layout, more space, and future room to expand its operations.”

According to the endorsements from Page and Crim, Alcatraz intends to create 25 new full-time jobs by 2026. The project is estimated to generate approximately $289,271 in tax revenue during the life of the abatement.

The company, which was founded in 2007 in St. Louis, has 65 trucks and 78 vans and 20 reefer trailers.
