St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger will face at least one challenger in the Democratic primary this August.
Stenger and Ladue businessman Mark Mantovani both filed Tuesday for the Democratic nomination for the county executive’s post.
Also filing for the county’s top spot were Republican Paul Berry III and Libertarian Theo Brown Sr.
Filing for county, state and federal offices for the Aug. 7 primary will continue through 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 27.
Also up for election are County Council seats in the 1st District, 3rd District, 5th District and 7th District.
Filing Tuesday were incumbents 1st District Councilwoman Hazel Erby, D-University City; 5th District Councilman Pat Dolan, D-Richmond Heights; and 7th District Councilman Mark Harder, R-Ballwin.
Filing for the 3rd District County Council seat now held by Colleen Wasinger, R-Huntleigh, was former county police Chief Tim Fitch, a Repblican. Wasinger previously announced that she would not seek re-election.
Also up for election is the county prosecutor’s post held by Democrat Robert McCulloch, who filed for re-election Tuesday. He has served as county prosecutor since 1991.
Democrat Wesley Bell filed to challenge McCulloch.
Democrat Jake Zimmerman, a former state representative, filed for re-election to the county assessor’s position that he has held since 2011.
Missouri House
In the Missouri House, up for election are seats held by Democrat Sarah Unsicker of Shrewsbury in District 91, Democrat Doug Beck of Affton in District 92, Democrat Bob Burns of Affton in District 93, Republican Cloria Brown of Lemay in District 94, Republican Marsha Haefner of Oakville in District 95 and Republican David Gregory of Sunset Hills in District 96.
Unsicker, Beck, Burns and Gregory have filed for re-election.
In District 92, Republican Bill Heisse filed.
In District 94, Republicans Ron Rammaha and Jim Murphy filed, as did Democrat Jean Pretto, who serves on the Mehlville Board of Education.
Brown recently announced she will not seek re-election due to health issues.
In District 95, Haefner cannot seek re-election due to term limits.
Filing for the District 95 seat were Republicans Joe Patterson and Michael A. O’Donnell, along with Democrat Mike Walter.
Also filing in District 96 was Democrat Erica Hoffman.
Also up for election is the District 97 seat held by Democrat Mike Revis, who just won election Feb. 6 to fill the unexpired term of Rep. John McCaherty, R-Fenton, by defeating David Linton.
The district is mostly in Jefferson County, but includes some areas of Concord in south county around Meramec Bottom Road and Hagemann Elementary.
Revis filed for re-election to the District 97 seat. Also filing were Republicans Mary Elizabeth Coleman, Phil Amato and Linton.
U.S. House
A host of Democratic candidates are vying for their party’s nod in an effort to unseat U.S. Rep. Ann Wagner, R-Ballwin, who filed for re-election Tuesday.
Democratic candidates throwing their hat into the ring include attorney Cort VanOstran, Army veteran and south county native Mark Osmack, St. Louis elected school board member Bill Haas, political science professor John Messmer and Robert W. Hazel.
