The St. Louis County Department of Human Services is holding a special Mother’s Day collection drive to bring comfort and self-care to women at the Kathy J. Weinman Domestic Violence Shelter.
Now through May 15, community members are encouraged to donate new, unopened items such as manicure kits, makeup, bath bombs, body sprays and hair accessories. Drop-off locations include all St. Louis County Parks and Recreation complexes and all County Library branches. South County library branches include:
- The Grant’s View Branch, 9700 Musick Road
- The Cliff Cave Branch, 5430 Telegraph Road
- The Oak Bend Branch, 842 S. Holmes Ave.
- The Meramec Valley Branch, 1501 San Simeon Way
- The Weber Road Branch, 4444 Weber Road
The donated items will be available to residents of the Kathy J. Weinman Domestic Violence Shelter through its Spa Closet Program, which “helps restore dignity and self-worth to mothers who have faced unimaginable hardship.”
“This isn’t just about lipstick or lotion,” Teresa Quarles, division manager of women and children services in the Department of Human Services, stated in a press release. “It’s about helping mothers rediscover a piece of themselves that was taken by violence. The Spa Closet reminds them they are worthy of love and care.”
The Kathy J. Weinman Shelter, 7800 Weinman Way, 63121, is St. Louis County’s only domestic violence shelter. For those seeking domestic violence assistance, call the shelter’s 24-hour crisis line at 314-423-1117 or 314-615-4430.
