Lindbergh High School got its best pitching performance of the season last Saturday but the offense shut down and the Flyers’ baseball woes continued.

Senior Chris Horan threw a complete game, holding St. Charles West to one run on four hits. He walked three and retired seven via strikeout, but the Flyers (2-13, 1-6 Suburban West) failed to muster one run in a disappointing 1-0 shutout.

“St. Charles West’s pitcher (Mike Schra-der) did a nice job on us and we just decided not to hit,” Lindbergh head coach Darin Scott told the Call. “Chris Horan really stepped it up and we just didn’t push any runs to help him out.”

Horan’s loss added more salt to the wound. He’s 0-5 with an 8.93 earned run average, but will have more opportunities to repeat last Saturday’s performance once the playoffs begin in the next couple of weeks.

“Chris threw a great game,” Scott said. “He’s had an up-and-down season but has the capability to be a very productive pitcher. It was nice to see him put it together and hopefully he’ll be ready come tourney time.”

Junior designated hitter Zach Outman provided the Flyers only offensive spark, going 2-3 with one double. Outman is batting a solid .389 with two stolen bases.

“Coming into the season, Zach was pretty productive as a sophomore on the sophomore team,” Scott said. “He’s been stringing together a couple of games where he’s gotten a couple of hits.”

Lindbergh battles University City in the first round of the Suburban South/West Conference tournament at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at Jack Buck field.

“There’s really no guarantee with this team,” Scott said. “We should beat University City, but then again, we should have beaten St. Charles West.”
