Another writer suggests anti-merger slogan: ‘Not another Chicago’

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

Your Feb. 7 edition says Steve Stenger would be “King Steve” under a city-county merger. I disagree. King Steve would be a pawn to King Rex, the know-it-all.

In previous editions, other cities were mentioned about the success of merging municipalities. Has anybody heard of Chicago, ruled by the Democrats for over 100 years?

So, this Better Together will lead to Democratic control after the big donors buy up all the pawns known as politicians. Chicago is another bankrupt city from pension promises. Better Together will make graft easier using the pawns. St. Louis is bankrupt to the tune of $1.5 billion. St. Louis became a mutual admiration society: you scratch my back, I will scratch your back.

I have a slogan: “Not another Chicago.” We have spineless politicians today, not statesmen, i.e. the Delmar Loop Trolley and the development and the sales tax fiasco that was written in another newspaper.
