Mehlville High School senior Stephanie Joyner, 17, is taking her volleyball talents both offensively and defensively to Mis-sissippi State University next fall.
This year, Mehlville Senior High girls’ volleyball coach Susan Hurt named Joy-ner the team’s Most Valuable Player.
She described Joyner, a fourth-year starter for Mehlville High, as “fundamentally sound,” according to a district news release.
Joyner’s stats indicate she is a great de-fensive player, leading the Suburban West League in kills with 81 in 17 games, an average of 4.76 per game.
During the 2005 season, offensively, the 6-foot-2-inch Joyner put 100 points on the board for the Mehlville Panthers.
She also led the team with 273 kills — averaging 4.40 per game — and was a team leader in blocks with a total of 41, in-cluding 36 solo blocks, according to the release.
Her parents are Cathy and Steve Joyner.
