Students honor Oakville High Marine

Students enrolled in Oakville Senior High School’s Leadership Course recently did their part to honor current and former members of the U.S. military for Veterans Day by sponsoring a ceremony that hit close to home for many students and staff members. The students used the money from a class fundraiser to purchase a monument stone honoring Oakville High graduates who have died in the line of duty. In attendance at the dedication ceremony was the family of Marine Cpl. Donald Marler, a 2006 OHS graduate, who died in June while serving his country. Marler’s name is the first to be listed on the stone. Leadership students worked with Kevin Damron at Monuments of St. Louis to purchase the monument stone. Damron helped the students develop a budget for the stone and offered them a 30-percent discount.
