Two St. Mary’s High School teachers are featured in education consultant Jane Pollock’s latest book, “Minding the Achievement Gap One Classroom at a Time.”

Spanish and health teacher Jenn Sykor is featured in the book in regard to interactive notebooks and is the educator’s voice in the book’s third chapter.

Freshmen teacher and guidance counselor Alex DeMattesis also is noted in the book as an example of a teacher using the “access prior knowledge” part of the GANAG teaching method in a unique and effective way. GANAG is an acronym for goal setting for the learners; access prior knowledge; acquire new information; apply knowledge; revisit the goal.

St. Mary’s High school has been working with Pollock, a nationally recognized education consultant who specializes in curriculum and instruction, since 2009.
