The St. Louis County Board of Election will perform a mandatory post-election recount Wednesday.
The public is invited to attend the recount for the April municipal election at the county Board of Election offices, 725 Northwest Plaza Drive, at 9 a.m. After each election, the election board if required to perform a manual recount of select races and ballot issues, as required by state statute.
“Post-election audits are crucial in verifying our elections,” said Republican Directory of Elections Rick Stream. “They reassure voters that the election results are accurate.”
Plastic eggs containing polling location numbers, precincts, races and ballot issues will be drawn on Wednesday – those races will then be manually recounted by bipartisan election board staff. Manual recounts of races where the margin of victory between the top candidates is less than .5% will also be conducted.
“This process ensures that each voter’s ballot was counted the way they intended in every race,” said Democratic Director of Elections Eric Fey. “This is one of the many safeguards we have in place to ensure secure and accurate elections in St. Louis County.”
