Speech, debate students advance to local finals

Nine members of the Oakville Senior High School Speech and Debate Team have qualified for the finals of the Greater St. Louis Speech Association competition that will take place Friday, Jan. 19, and Saturday, Jan. 20.

Qualifying for the finals from Oakville are: Altricia Gbloh (Poetry Interpretation), Travis Zimpfer (Prose Interpretation), Angela Hoynacki and Lee Ann Karpel (Duo Interpretation), Krystal Weigl and Ryan Goodlin (Duo Interpretation), Camille Lubbock (Dramatic Interpretation), Nick Eplin (Original Oratory and Student Congress) and John Fleming (Radio Broadcast and Student Congress).

Fleming also reached the 1,000-point plateau, thus achieving the National Forensic League’s rank of Outstanding Distinction.

He is the ninth student in Oakville High history to earn this distinction.

Oakville’s Speech and Debate Team is coached by Ed Taylor.
