Southwestern honors Oakville resident as Faculty Member of the Year

An Oakville resident recently was named Southwestern Illinois College’s Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year.

Tracey Nieder, an adjunct faculty member in the Physical Therapy Assistant program at the Belleville, Ill., campus, was recognized for her commitment to her students, colleagues and profession.

She joined 14 other recipients of the college’s 2003 Trustees’ Awards at a dinner and ceremony conducted at the Holiday Inn in Collinsville, Ill.

“It is an honor for us as a board to recognize the contributions of this outstanding group of award recipients,” Southwestern Board of Trustees Chairman Nick Mance stated in a news release. “We appreciate the efforts of these individuals as well as the efforts of each and every staff and faculty member at Southwestern.”

Nieder was nominated by a fellow faculty member and received many letters of recommendation from students with whom she shares her enthusiasm and exemplary skills, according to the release.

She also serves as tutor in the Learning Assistance Centers for Excellence program; is supervisor of the program’s Campus Physical Therapy Clinic, a program serving community members whose insurance coverage for physical therapy services has ex-pired; and is sponsor of the program’s club for students.

“I feel this is a great accomplishment not only for myself, but for my peers who have been mentors,” Nieder stated. “Having students acknowledge the time and effort that I put into each class is also gratifying.”
