The South County Government Center, 4554 Lemay Ferry Road, will be open the week of Sept. 22 for South County residents who want help handling missing documents or signatures for the senior property tax freeze. These “office hours” will be from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day.
The original deadline for the senior tax freeze was Sept. 15, but that deadline has been pushed back due to some confusion surrounding the submission portal.
An online portal will open on Sept. 16 to schedule appointments, and residents are encouraged to make their appointment beforehand. Walk-ins will be accepted throughout the week, but there might be a substantial wait for those choosing not to sign up in advance. The final walk-in appointment taken will be at 4 p.m.
This decision was made so seniors would not have to travel as far as the North County Government Center to get help there.
“My office had asked for relief for the South County residents,” 6th District Councilman Mike Archer, R-Oakville, said. “Looks like we received our answer.”
There are currently 11,800 incomplete applications, according to a release by St. Louis County. The Revenue Department plans to send postcards to seniors with incomplete applications, to notify and remind them.
