Saturday, Sept. 20
Attend a parade | The annual Affton-Lemay Community Parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Affton High School, making its way down Mackenzie Road, down Gravois Road to Weber Road, and ending at Bayless Elementary School.
Dive into history | From 10 – 11 a.m. at the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site, park historian and curator Nick Sacco will offer a lecture examining the lives of Ulysses and Julia Grant within the context of their families, highlighting their letters, personal recollections of other family members, and other contemporary observations to shed light on this aspect of their lives. Learn from a lecture | The Social Justice Ministry of St. Lucas UCC, 11735 Denny Road, is hosting a 10 a.m. viewing of “Christian Nationalism — A Threat to Democracy and Christianity,” a talk by Rev. John Dorhauer. Dorhauer is the former General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ. After the talk, Dorhauer will join via Zoom for a question-and-answer session.

Sunday, Sept. 21
Learn about phones | Winnie-the-Pooh, R2-D2, Big Bird and Kermit the Frog — these are just some of the telephones you’ll see at the Jefferson Barracks Telephone Museum, 12 Hancock Avenue. The museum has many hands-on, how-things-work exhibits created to inspire an interest in engineering and history. Housed in a restored 1896 building, the history museum also features an extensive collection of telephones manufactured from the late 1800s through the 2010s, hundreds of pieces of telephone-related equipment, memorabilia from the 1880s through the 2000s and military telephones from WWI through the Gulf War.

Conducted by Saint Louis Vets Connect, “Veterans Coffee Talk” was created so veterans can enjoy the brotherhood shared by all branches of service, providing a non-political atmosphere where their stories and valor can be shared. Free donuts and coffee – and occasionally breakfast – will be provided.
