Six Mehlville School District schools honored for positive behavior support efforts

Six Mehlville School District schools have earned recognition from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, or DESE, and the University of Missouri Center for School-Wide Positive Behavior Support for implementing positive behavior support and improving students’ behavior and academic performance.

John Cary Early Childhood Center and Oakville Middle both earned gold medals in the 2012 Missouri School-Wide Positive Behavior Support, or SW-PBS, School Recognition Program, while Beasley Elementary, Blades Elementary, Point Elementary and Bernard Middle were awarded bronze medals in the program.

“As a district, we are committed to meeting the individual needs of all of our students,” Superintendent Eric Knost stated in a news release. “These Positive Behavior Support awards acknowledge the efforts of our staff members across the District who are committed to helping our students achieve continued success.”

The SW-PBS initiative focuses on creating a learning environment conducive to the academic and social success of all students. Through the School Recognition Program, DESE and the University of Missouri honor schools for their development of academic strategies designed to meet the needs of individual students while encouraging positive student behavior.
