South Side Christian School recently transformed its walls for a family reading event, “Get Ready, Get Set, Read!” in conjunction with the school’s annual Scholas-tic Book Fair.

Kindergarten teachers decorated their rooms with teepees and Indian blankets as they read “Knots on a Counting Rope,” according to a news release.

First- and second-grade teachers performed Dr. Suess classics.

Third- and fourth-grade classrooms were transformed into a chuck wagon campfire where children “roasted” marshmallows while learning the tall tales of Pecos Bill.

And fifth-graders acted out the famous fence whitewashing scene from Mark Twain’s “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.”

PTO President Paula Ramos stated that this event showcased the talent and enthusiasm of the teachers and helped pupils be-come excited about reading for fun.
