The Sappington-Concord Historical Society will return to St. Lucas United Church of Christ this year to host the biggest, little annual Memorial Day celebration in South County.
This year’s event is at 9 a.m. Monday, May 30, on the green at St. Lucas United Church of Christ, 11735 Denny Road. The annual family-friendly celebration is free and open to the public.
This year’s event will feature distinguished speaker CW4 Andrew Ottinger with the Missouri National Guard. Ottinger is a decorated serviceman with 30 years of military service, including a combat tour in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004-05. He is a maintenance test flight evaluator in Springfield, Missouri, a standardization subject matter expert, and a member of the Aviation Resource Management Survey Team, National Guard Bureau in Alexandria, Virginia. He has received several medals, including the Combat Action Badge, Master Army Aviator Badge, three Army achievement medals and a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
This year’s event will also include a ceremonial flyover by a local group of Stearman Biplane aircraft owners, a doves of peace release, and musical performances by Lauren Hoggatt, the Moolah Drum Corps and the Lindbergh High School Spirit of St. Louis Marching Band.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, and parking will be available on the east parking lot at St. Lucas. For more information, please visit www.schs.ws.
