Oakville High student to attend Boys Nation

Aaron Wali Mohabbat, an incoming senior at Oakville High School, has been selected as a senator for the American Legion Boys Nation that will take place from Friday, July 22, to Saturday, July 30, in the Washington, D.C., area.

Boys Nation is an annual American Legion program that includes civic training, leadership development and a focus on Americanism.

Mohabbat previously was elected as a senator at Missouri Boys State, which had roughly 1,000 participants, according to a news release.

Mohabbat will be joined by Ryan Murphy of Christian Brothers College High School in representing Missouri at Boys Nation.

Mohabbat serves as senior class president at Oakville High, where he is a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Council.

Mohabbat is an active member of his school’s Speech and Debate team and qualified to the national tournament in congressional debate. He is also an officer of his Spanish Club. He has spent significant time volunteering at a local mosque.

Mohabbat works during the summer as clerk for an elder law firm. His goal in life is to follow in the diplomatic footsteps of his father, a former ambassador to the United States from Afghanistan, the release stated.

The Oakville student also hopes to attend any of a number of Washington, D.C., colleges to study international relations.
