On the heels of three losses in the last four games, Oakville Senior High girls’ basketball coach Paul Harrington decided to revamp his lineup at last Friday’s game against North County.

Harrington apparently concocted a winning formula as his Tigers (11-7, 1-4 Su-burban West) came away with a 65-53 victory over the Raiders.

“I was really pleased with our overall team effort,” Harrington told the Call. “We started quite a different lineup and was curious as to where the points were going to come from. I thought that we took care of the ball really well and had only five turnovers.”

Oakville’s Megan Reel pounced off the bench for 16 points and four rebounds. The junior guard tripled her season average of 5.1 points per game. Reel leads the Tigers in assists with 50 and steals with 29.

“Megan really helped us with free throws by going 5 (of) 8 from the line,” Harring-ton said. “She made all five free-throws in the fourth quarter.”

Starting forward Nicole Norberg contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers.

“Nikki had a really good night on the boards. She’s really stepped up with the loss of our two post players,” Harrington said, referring to the injured Sherry Zehner and Faith Zabek.

Oakville’s Emma Kriegel also scored in double figures with 11 points and three rebounds.

“Emma had an excellent defensive performance,” Harrington said. “She was a big boost for us in that we put her on their best player. She still came out with 11 points.”

Rounding out the Tigers’ foursome of double-digit scorers was senior guard Stephanie Dippold with 10 points and two rebounds. Harrington moved Dippold from the shooting guard position to the point guard position where she could run the Tiger offense.

“I think she was surprised that we decided to let her run the point,” Harrington said. “She did a good job and I was really pleased with her leadership.”

The Tigers play host to Northwest at 7 p.m. Friday in a Suburban West Confer-ence match against the Lions.

“It’s an important game in that it’s not only a conference game, but also Senior Night,” Harrington said

“The Northwest program has come a long way and they’re definitely an up and coming team. It’s going to be an interesting contest,” he said.
