Notre Dame High School, 320 E. Ripa Ave., hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. 12 to celebrate the start of construction on the school’s new $5 million STREAM facilities and campus enhancements.
The renovation plan will enhance the school’s science, technology, religion, engineering, art and mathematics programs, providing new science rooms, new art rooms and renovated classrooms.
Construction is expected to wrap up by fall 2025.
“Our commitment to nurturing confident and compassionate leaders remains steadfast. This STREAM and arts initiative will empower our students with resources that enrich their academic journey and nurture their spiritual growth, helping them build brighter futures,” NDHS president Mark Bayens stated in a press release.
The ceremony began with Katie Wood, NDHS head of student life and discipline welcoming Father Allen Boedeker to start the event with prayer and a blessing.
Bayens then introduced School Sisters of Notre Dame representatives – Sister Regina Palacios and Sister Joan DiProspere; Lauren Mueller, NDHS board president; 93rd House District Rep. Bridget Walsh Moore (D-Lemay); Affton/Lemay Chamber of Commerce president-elect Michael Butz; Amy Bush, NDHS head of academics; and student representatives Mckenna Gambino and Elleanor Macke to speak on why the project is important to them and the future of Notre Dame.
“The new building will not only impact the junior class and myself, but will also affect the many future rebels to come,” Macke said. “This new building will bring more creativity, hands-on activities and room for growth. We are so excited to be a part of this new chapter of Notre Dame and cannot wait to be a part of the final outcome.”
After the speeches, Bayens invited School Sisters of Notre Dame along with NDHS elected officials, board members and student council for a ceremonial dig to commemorate the beginning of a new chapter.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the school’s gymnasium serving “dirt” cake with a photo opportunity for all who attended.
