On Sept. 11, at approximately 3 p.m., crews from the Mehlville Fire Protection District responded to a report about a confined space rescue at a construction site on Meramec Bottom Road.
Upon arrival, the crews located a worker inside a trench at the bottom of a 30-foot pit. The worker had sustained a closed head injury. Responders from the MFPD secured them in a victim harness and stokes basket, and then lifted them out of the pit with the assistance of an on-site excavator.
The individual was immediately treated by emergency responders and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. There have been no released updates on the individual’s condition.
The injured worker was one of six present at the construction site. The events that led up to their fall into the trench are unclear at this time.
