The Mehlville School District will participate today — Oct. 14 — in a “Lights On” after-school rally.

This is the Mehlville School District’s first year of participating in the “Lights On” after-school rally as the district celebrates the first full year of the Omni Club after-school program at both Buerkle Mid-dle and Oakville Middle schools.

Parents, neighbors, local business managers and community leaders are invited to attend the “Lights On” event, which will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. at Oakville Mid-dle School, 5950 Telegraph Road.

The Oakville Middle School event will in-clude a three-on-three basketball tournament in the gym and booths representing many of the Omni Club workshops in the cafeteria. Pupils will display their Omni Club T-shirts for 2004 and new designs for 2005. Information about school-sponsored clubs and community education classes throughout the district also will be available.

Oakville Middle School will be one of more than 6,130 sites across the nation that will help send the message that after-school programs are key to children’s de-velopment and success.
