Mehlville students plan Special Olympics next week

Mehlville Senior High School is hosting its 14th annual Special Olympics for 276 special needs students from across the Mehlville School District.

The Special Olympics will begin with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4 at Jack Jordan Stadium on the MHS campus, 3200 Lemay Ferry Road. The Olympics will conclude at 1 p.m.

Participants will spend the day with their MHS “buddies” as they participate in events such as a relay race, shot put, tennis ball throw and various running events. The student athletes also will visit the Olympic Village to play games and win prizes.

The Special Olympics is organized and run by a steering committee of MHS students, and an additional 550 students from MHS will volunteer at the event.
