Fans of Mehlville High School star softball player Rachel Heet won’t have to travel far to watch her play in college.
Heet recently signed a letter of intent to swing the bat and play shortstop for the St. Louis University team next year, according to a district news release.
“I had three requirements in selecting my college team,” Heet stated. “I wanted to play Division One, play close to home and attend a university that offered pre-med as a major. “St. Louis University really fit the bill.”
At shortstop, Heet is a wizard with the glove, the release stated.
She handled 141 fielding chances and made only four errors for an outstanding .972 fielding percentage during her senior season.
She made 53 putouts, earned 84 assists and turned three double plays.
Heet also was a force at the plate this year.
She led the Panthers in batting average at .457, doubles with six, triples with six and runs-batted-in with 13. She also chipped in 11 stolen bases, second highest on the team.
Besides playing on the varsity softball team at Mehlville all four years, Heet is a guard on the Mehlville girls basketball team, which currently is undefeated and just won the Southside Classic basketball tournament last weekend.
Heet scored nine points in the championship game.
In softball, Heet, 17, was named First-Team All-Conference, First-Team All-District and First-Team All-Region.
She also was selected for the Second-Team All-Metro and Second-Team All-State.
